COLE BROS. CIRCUS

COLUMBIA AVENUE SHOW GROUNDS

PONTIAC, MICHIGAN
June 17, 1944

Because of the manpower shortage during World War-II, the Circus found it necessary to utilize local youngsters to aid in putting up the Big Top.

COLE BROS. was scheduled to play Pontiac on June 22, 1943. However, that year, due to a race riot in Detroit, the show train stopped in Pontiac just long enough to feed and water the animals and then it left town and headed for Port Huron where it played on June 23rd. According to BILLBOARD MAGAZINE in this 1944 stand at Pontiac the circus had two tremendous straw houses. Obviously, the defense plant workers were hungry for some truly exciting entertainment.
